Our Proposal Story:

Neal's Side:
July 4th, 2010 was the day that I proposed to Kelly. I wanted to be certain that she did not see it coming so I was meticulous about hiding the fact that I had visited both her parents and sister, that I had any intention of proposing any time soon, and last but not least that I even had a ring.
My plan entailed a couple of Kelly’s favorite things; a significant place, a meaningful time, sushi, and a diamond ring. I was going to take her to Blue Sushi Bar, which used to be Jobber’s Canyon, for lunch and get on one knee in time for us to spend countless hours around family and friends on the 4th of July. My plan hinged on a few things, getting Kelly to lunch on time and of course Kelly wanting to eat sushi (which she had never said no to).
The plan was foiled when Kelly stated that she wanted a greasy cheeseburger instead of sushi. When I attempted to convince her to go somewhere that was at least nice, she recommended McDonalds. Knowing that I did not want to propose under the golden arches, we retired to room 611 at the Doubletree downtown to regroup and think of a new plan. Another wrench was thrown into the plan when Kelly decided to take an afternoon nap and I followed suit.
Waking up at 3:30 pm I quickly thought of a plan. I pulled out a card that I had bought for her and wrote the sweetest message I could muster. Within the message I underlined individual letters that when put together spelled “Will You Marry Me”. At the bottom of the card in very small print I wrote the secret to decoding the true message of the card. She only got as far as “Will You…”. Slightly confused, she asked me “what does this mean”. At that point I got on one knee, said a couple of lines I had rehearsed earlier in my head, and presented her with the ring.
Thank God she said yes. After going through all that I expected at least a “yes”. Crying, then jumping, then crying, then a little more jumping came next.
The rest is history. We made it to see everyone we wanted to see and even though my original plan went awry, the way it happened could not have been more perfect.

Kelly's Rebuttal:
Ok so I totally ruined Neal's plan...I admit it!! I was so confused as to why he wanted sushi when he knew that we were going to sushi the next day with friends. Neal never wants sushi two days in a row!! After a night of party-hardy at Kate's wedding (Neal's sister) all I wanted to do was take a nap!
When I woke up, Neal came and sat next to me on the bed (I was still laying down) and handed me a card. I asked him what the heck it was for and he said, "with all of this wedding stuff I just wanted to get you a card!' It's a very Neal thing to do. So with a smile on my face I started to read the card. I noticed as I was reading that certain letters were underlined, which I thought was kind of weird, but not too far off of a typical Neal thing (he sometimes underlines words in cards, etc.) I noticed at one point that he got on his knee, then quickly got back up on the bed. My head was swirling with thoughts and I didn't really get what was happening until he was on his knee with a ring in his hand!
Everything was perfect and I couldn't be happier!!!
